CANCELED: Clinical Gross Anatomy of the Upper Limb and Back

THIS COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELED

Objectives
This is a two-day, primarily laboratory-based course that also includes didactic content focused on clinical correlates of the relevant anatomy. This course provides an in-depth review of clinically relevant anatomy of the upper extremity and back utilizing prosected specimens, cadaveric dissection and demonstration by participants, as well as case-centered discussion groups. Approximately three-quarters of the contact time will be spent in the gross anatomy laboratory.

16 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) will be awarded.

Clinical Gross Anatomy of the Lower Limb and Pelvis will follow this course.

Prerequisites:

  • Audience: The course is designed for clinicians with an overall course objective to review clinically relevant anatomy through a cadaver-based experience.
  • Space is limited – Enroll now!
  • $595 (nonrefundable**) – includes all equipment necessary for dissection work including tools, gloves, and safety glasses.

Register for both courses and save $100!

During this course the student will:

  • Review clinically relevant anatomy of the upper extremity including joints and associated structures, musculature, and neurovasculature on prosected specimens.
  • Review clinically relevant anatomy of the back and sub-occipital region including joints and associated structures, musculature, and neurovasculature on prosected specimens.
  • Participate in dissection of regional anatomy of the upper extremity or back.
  • Apply regional anatomy to select clinical correlates through facilitated group discussion.

Course Outline

DAY 1 – Friday,  8:00 AM  – 5:30 PM
DAY 2 – Saturday,  8:00 AM  – 5:30 PM

Instructors

The course will be taught by Drs. Laura Thorp and Kirsten Moisio. Both are physical therapists with doctoral degrees in Anatomy and extensive experience teaching gross anatomy to students in a variety of health-care related disciplines.

Laura Thorp, PT, PhD, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She received her PhD in anatomy from Rush University and her physical therapy degree from the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA. She currently teaches human gross anatomy and neuroanatomy to physical therapy students and has experience teaching anatomy in medical, nursing, physician assistant, and speech and language pathology programs. Her primary research interests are in the field of knee osteoarthritis and curricular innovation in anatomy education. She has received the Brainard award for excellence in teaching from Rush University as well as the Susan K Campbell Award for Academic Teaching Excellence and the Excalibur Award for Teaching Excellence both from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Kirsten Moisio, PT, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences at Northwestern University. She received her PhD in anatomy from Rush University and her physical therapy degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She teaches human anatomy to physical therapy and medical students at the Feinberg School of Medicine. Her primary research interests are in the field of knee osteoarthritis, specifically how dynamic loading (particularly as assessed during quantitative gait analysis) can affect progression of the disease. She has received the Best Teachers of Feinberg Award for her excellence in teaching and mentorship as a professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine.
