Health Matters Now More than Ever: The Triple Burden of Disease for People with IDD presented by Jasmina Sisirak.

As an often underserved population, health promotion is even more imperative for people with IDD when living in turbulent communities during a pandemic. During a period of physical distancing and sheltering in place due to COVID-19 pandemic, community-based organizations (CBOs) are reimagining ways to deliver health promotion programming to people with IDD and exploring options for connecting remotely. This webinar will present Virtual HealthMatters Program Coach, a 12-week health promotion program that provides easy access, online “anytime/anywhere” modules, strategies, and messages for use among people with IDD and their supports in community homes. Lessons learned will be discussed by one of the CBOs currently using the program. Ways to get involved and take part in Virtual HealthMatters Program Coach will be explained.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the ways to deliver health promotion programming to people with IDD during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Describe HealthMatters Program Coach, a virtual health promotion program model for people with IDD.
  3. Present preliminary ‘lessons learned’ from HealthMatters Program Coach in one community based organization.
