2018 Frank Armitage Lecture Series

Friday, October 19, 2018

7:30 AM - 4:45 PM

Paul Peck’s Poetry of the Body and the Evolution of Anatomical Visualization

The full day Frank Armitage Lecture will examine the evolution of full color anatomical illustration from the 16th century through simulation technology of the 21st century.

Professor Raffaele De Caro, President of the University of Padua Medical School in Italy, will begin the historical exploration with the celebrated work of Girolamo Fabrici D’Aquapendente (C. 1533 – 1619), an anatomist who created full color anatomical paintings and left a legacy of surgical and anatomical students that included William Harvey.

An in-depth exploration of the work of Paul Peck celebrates the recent gift to University of Illinois at Chicago from Merck & Co., Inc. of their entire collection of Peck’s original medical artwork. A reception in the UIC Health Sciences Library at the end of the day will enable viewing of this recent and extraordinary gift.
