Stephen D. Coombs, PT, DPT, CSCS joins the University of Illinois Chicago as the 2020-2021 Sports Physical Therapy Resident. Stephen earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Franklin Pierce University, where he graduated as a member of the National Physical Therapy Student Honor Society. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified USA Track & Field Level-1 Coach. Stephen's clinical interests include sports injury rehabilitation, prevention of running related injuries, and the treatment of post-concussive syndrome. Prior to starting physical therapy school, Stephen spent two years as a high school cross country and track & field coach, where he coached multiple state-qualifying distance runners. He is highly active in the professional organizations he belongs to, serving in leadership roles with the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy (AASPT) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Outside of work, Stephen enjoys running, camping, and hanging out with his girlfriend and their dog, Gus.
