Beyond Silos: Trauma Informed Care for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disability

Trauma-informed care (TIC) is a philosophy of service focused on preventing traumatization and re-traumatization and promoting healing. This webinar will discuss the use of innovative care models incorporating supported decision making (SDM) and trauma informed-care (TIC) to be more inclusive of people with disability in healthcare, and to a lesser extent law enforcement, and the legal system. A panel of advocate leaders in the disability community will highlight key learnings from this webinar series that include discrimination of people with disabilities in accessing culturally appropriate healthcare, how intentional collaboration between health care and disability communities can prevent trauma among people with IDD.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. List 2-3 key learnings from this webinar series that healthcare professionals can put into action to ensure equitable treatment of patients with IDD.
2. Name at least one way health care providers can intentionally build more collaboration between health care and disability community to address violence and abuse issues more effectively.
