People with Intellectual and Developmental Disability Experiencing Abuse: Tips, Tools and Strategies for Providers

AGENDA

This webinar addresses the need to educate people with intellectual and developmental disability and allies, and healthcare providers about effective ways to interact and communicate with each other to address abuse and other types of trauma. Attitudinal barriers within society at large and within the healthcare profession will be addressed with the goal of increasing the use of accommodations to ensure equitable access to healthcare for persons with IDD. The critical role of peer support and coalition building will be offered as two promising solutions.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Know what research is available about attitudinal barriers among health care profession.
2. Understand how to use plain language and cultural humility to improve healthcare and health outcomes.
3. Discuss peer support and coalition building as key strategies to address violence and abuse.
