Krystal-Flora Dureke

Krystal-Flora Dureke is a Chicago Southland native, where she attended Homewood-Flossmoor high school and graduated in 2017.  She attended the University of Illinois Edwardsville as a Meridian Scholar, originally as a pre-pharmacy admit before switching to complete her bachelors. In 2021, she graduated with a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in Medical Science and a minor in Chemistry. After graduation, Krystal-Flora worked as a certified medical assistant with intentions of pursuing PA school. Growing up, Krystal-Flora was always encouraged to keep her passion for art as a hobby. It wasn’t until her senior mentor from her undergraduate program introduced her to medical illustration that she realized that her love for art and science could be combined. Her trajectory has changed completely since.

Krystal-Flora enjoys spending her free time in any way possible – be it playing video games at home, watching anime or cartoons, picnics, trips to local museums, concerts, etc. As long as she is with her loved ones or friends, she’s bound to have a good time. If she can bring her dog, Kash, with her, she’ll enjoy it even more. While she is uncertain of where her career will land her, Krystal-Flora hopes to learn as many different forms of media as a she can during her time at BVIS.
