SUMMARY:Including People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in End of Life Care Planning
DESCRIPTION:People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are living longer than before and outliving their parents. Supporting people as they age is a crucial element of self-determination, and this includes end of life care. However, we still do not know enough about end of life care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, nor do we know enough about their preferences. Everyone will experience the twilight of their lives, and good planning is a crucial aspect of ensuring equitable end of life care. This presentation will explore how other countries have included people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in end of life care, specifically Ireland. This presentation will prioritize supportive decision-making practices and tools that can be used by everyone. | Event post: https://ahs.uic.edu/events?page_id=17134
