WITH Foundation grant awarded to DHD team led by Kiyoshi Yamaki

A project led by Kiyoshi Yamaki (PI) and Kaitlin Stober, Matiana Ovalle, Jae Jin Pak, Timotheus (T.J.) Gordon, Jr. and Maureen Gecht to provide training to self-advocates with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds to serve as patient instructors in the academic program for medical and healthcare students has been awarded a grant for the WITH Foundation.

Assisted by two advocacy groups, Grupo SALTO and Chicagoland Disabled People of Color Coalition (DPOCC), the trainees will learn and practice strategies to effectively share their experience using health services with the students to facilitate their understanding of patient-centered care, shared clinical decision-making and culturally sensitive care for people with IDD.
