Ashley Hughes is lead author of Journal of Antimicrobial Stewardship and Healthcare Epidemiology paper

Ashley Hughes has a new article entitled, “A qualitative approach to examining antimicrobial prescribing in the outpatient dental setting” in the Journal of Antimicrobial Stewardship and Healthcare Epidemiology.

The paper details barriers and facilitators to evidence-based prescribing of antibiotics in the outpatient dental setting. Results of the project stem from interdisciplinary collaboration with world-recognized experts in dentistry and antibiotic stewardship, and were derived from qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with 90 dentists from 40 outpatient clinic sites across the continental United States.  Results further highlight areas for future work in antimicrobial stewardship efforts, including ways to improve awareness on prescribing behaviors.
