{"id":21081,"date":"2021-07-19T09:39:06","date_gmt":"2021-07-19T09:39:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ahs.uic.edu\/inside-ahs\/news-stories\/research-faculty-postdoctoral-and-phd-positions-in-informatics-and-data-science\/"},"modified":"2021-07-19T09:39:06","modified_gmt":"2021-07-19T09:39:06","slug":"research-faculty-postdoctoral-and-phd-positions-in-informatics-and-data-science","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ahs.uic.edu\/inside-ahs\/news-stories\/research-faculty-postdoctoral-and-phd-positions-in-informatics-and-data-science\/","title":{"rendered":"Research faculty, postdoctoral and PhD positions in informatics and data science"},"template":"","news_categories":[20],"news_tags":[],"class_list":["post-21081","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","news_categories-other-opportunities"],"acf":{"intro_text_subtitle":"","intro_text_body":"<p class=\"m_-5390876021431335685xmsonormal\"><strong>Seeking to fill research faculty, postdocs and Ph.D. student positions in data science and informatics in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ahs.uic.edu\/biomedical-health-information-sciences\/\">UIC Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences<\/a> starting fall 2021<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0The candidates will have the opportunity to advance data science methodology with strong clinical relevance, translate innovation to improve practice and engage with a broad range of professionals, through Learning Laboratories (Learning Health System environments).<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-5390876021431335685xmsonormal\">Some of these positions are funded through a four-year, $2.5M research grant from AHRQ for a Patient Safety Learning Laboratory to improve diagnosis in emergency and acute care settings.\u00a0 Diagnostic decision-making is a highly complex cognitive process involving uncertainty, making it susceptible to errors. Clinicians working in emergency departments (EDs) are particularly vulnerable to making diagnostic errors due to time-pressured decision-making in a hectic environment.\u00a0 This team science award will study patient, provider\/care-team and system level factors in emergency\/acute care, and use a combination of human and machine intelligence to improve diagnostic accuracy and safety.\u00a0 The grant is for development of diagnostic triggers and implementation and dissemination\/scale of the Learning Laboratory concept through two academic and two community-based EDs.\u00a0 This award builds on years of discovery\/innovation work in Learning Laboratories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-5390876021431335685xmsonormal\"><strong>\u00a0The ideal candidate will have expertise in big data\/modeling and strong interest in\u00a0healthcare.
