Topics include the Communication Bill of Rights, varying communication disabilities, and the use of augmentative and alternative communication strategies and tools.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineprograms.uic.edu\/courses-3\/continuing-education\/health-and-health-sciences-courses\/introduction-assistive-technology-principles-practice\/\"><strong>DHD 440 \u2013 Introduction to Assistive Technology: Principles and Practice <\/strong><strong>(3-credit hour, CRN:39814)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Selected topics will introduce students to the principles and practices of assistive technology devices and services used by people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineprograms.uic.edu\/courses-3\/continuing-education\/health-and-health-sciences-courses\/dhd-554-augmentative-communication-assessment\/\"><strong>DHD 554 \u2013 Augmentative Communication Assessment <\/strong><strong>(3-credit hour, CRN:16531)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Examines strategies for assessing augmentative communication, incorporating evaluation materials and case examples for discussion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineprograms.uic.edu\/courses-3\/continuing-education\/health-and-health-sciences-courses\/consideration-assessment-documentation-assistive-technology-prek-12-educational-setting\/\"><strong>DHD 555 \u2013 Consideration, Assessment, and Documentation of Assistive Technology in PreK-12 Educational Setting <\/strong><strong>(3-credit hour, CRN:38287)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An introduction to the delivery of assistive technology services in the PreK-12 educational setting<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineprograms.uic.edu\/courses-3\/continuing-education\/health-and-health-sciences-courses\/seating-positioning-wheelchair-mobility\/\"><strong>DHD 556 \u2013 Seating and Positioning for Wheelchair Mobility (<\/strong><strong>1-credit hour, CRN:39815)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A focus on seating and positioning assessment for functional use of a manual or powered wheelchair for individuals with physical disabilities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineprograms.uic.edu\/courses-3\/continuing-education\/health-and-health-sciences-courses\/manual-powered-wheelchair-technologies\/\"><strong>DHD 557 \u2013 Manual and Powered Wheelchair Technologies\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(2-credit hour, CRN:39816)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thoroughly examine manual and powered wheelchair designs and components for individuals with physical disabilities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineprograms.uic.edu\/courses-3\/continuing-education\/health-and-health-sciences-courses\/introduction-to-microcontrollers-in-assistive-technology\/\"><strong>DHD 566 \u2013 Introduction to Microcontrollers in Assistive Technology\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(2-credit hour, CRN:47530)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of DYI projects, learn to use entry-level electronics using microcontrollers.
