This summary is intended to supplement the university&#8217;s official policies. Please review the full guidance at the links below for complete requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UIC photo and video policies and guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uic.edu\/resources\/photo-video-policies\/\">UIC Photography and Videography Policies<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brand.uic.edu\/resources\/photography-and-video\/\">UIC Photography and Video Guidelines<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hospital.uillinois.edu\/marketing\/brand-style-guide\/photo-and-video-guidelines\">UI Health Photo and Video Guidelines<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UIC photo and video resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ahs.uic.edu\/inside-ahs\/faculty-and-staff-resources\/communications\/#photo-and-video\">Inside AHS photo and video resources<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brand.uic.edu\/visual-identity\/photography-and-video\/#photography-and-video-resources\">UIC photo and video resources<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key points to remember<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Consent<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not take or publicly use photos or videos of individuals without their consent.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/brand.uic.edu\/resources\/photography-and-video\/#media-consent-forms\">signed UIC media consent form<\/a> is needed for any promotional, marketing or <em>publicly distributed <\/em>content<em>.\u00a0<\/em>Exceptions may include images captured in public spaces e.g., outside and in events where <a href=\"https:\/\/brand.uic.edu\/resources\/photography-and-video\/#public-notices\">public notice and signage<\/a> may be sufficient.<\/li>\n<li>For minors, written parental or guardian consent is <em>always<\/em> required.<\/li>\n<li>Think about ways in which your department\/unit can leverage existing processes or touch points to obtain signed releases from faculty, staff and students, e.g., during orientation, onboarding, etc.<\/li>\n<li>A copy of all signed consent forms in your unit\/department should be <a href=\"https:\/\/uofi.app.box.com\/f\/24c0ca7c671b46c0ac463b9db734bbab\">submitted to AHS marcomms<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>A signed <a href=\"https:\/\/brand.uic.edu\/resources\/photography-and-video\/#media-consent-forms\">UI Health release form for patients<\/a> is <em>always<\/em> required for content captured in clinical or health-related spaces where individuals are receiving services or care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Public notice and signage<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>For events or shoots where photography or videography will occur, post <a href=\"https:\/\/brand.uic.edu\/resources\/photography-and-video\/#public-notices\">the UIC Notice of Photography<\/a> sign and include the notice\u2019s language in event materials, e.g., calendar post, event webpage, email invitation, registration page, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Obtain signed consent forms for events that include or may include minors, even if a public notice has been posted and the language has been included in event materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use only approved or owned media<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Use images and videos that <a href=\"https:\/\/uic.photoshelter.com\/index\">UIC owns<\/a>, has licensed or has obtained through proper permission.<\/li>\n<li>Professional or commercial shoots on campus must be coordinated with SMC in advance. Contact Erika Chavez at <a href=\"mailto:eachavez@uic.edu\">eachavez@uic.edu<\/a> to begin the process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Accessibility<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure <a href=\"https:\/\/drc.uic.edu\/accommodations\/aslandcart\/\">videos have captions<\/a> and that audio is clear.<\/li>\n<li>Photos posted digitally should all have <a href=\"https:\/\/it.uic.edu\/accessibility\/digital-accessibility-training-resources\/accessibility-guidance-by-topic\/#alt-text-for-all-images\">ALT text<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Consider privacy concerns, especially for students, staff, patients and community members.<\/p>\n<p>Even with policies, photography and videography often involve gray areas. If you\u2019re unsure whether additional permission, signage or consent is needed, please pause before proceeding.
