Presentation Abstract & Objectives

This presentation focuses on the application of the SAFE-T framework in suicide risk assessment within occupational therapy practice. Attendees will learn how to use this evidence-based tool to assess suicide risk, including identifying warning signs, evaluating risk factors, and determining appropriate interventions/referrals. Real-world scenarios will demonstrate how OTs can encounter and support clients experiencing suicidal ideation across various practice settings.

At the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to:

1. Identify the components of suicide risk assessment.
2. Verbalize risk and protective factors relevant to OT practice.
3. Conduct a suicide inquiry using the SAFE-T framework.
4. Develop strategies for intervention and follow-up.

Location: This presentation will be delivered in-person at UIC, AHSB Rm 713, 1919 West Taylor Street.
