Illinois Occupational Therapy Association (Illi-SOTA)
The Illinois Student Occupational Therapy Association (Illi-SOTA) is a recognized student organization that serves to promote professional development through education, leadership opportunities, networking, volunteer activities, social and philanthropic activities. Student representatives are elected from each class of graduate students. Illi-SOTA creates a professional culture that is member-driven and facilitates communication between first and second year students, allowing all members to have the opportunity to contribute to the organization’s yearly objectives.
The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Assembly of Student Delegates (ASD) Representative
The Assembly of Student Delegates (ASD) Representative serves as the liasion between UIC students and AOTA. They also encourage student engagement through sharing news, resources, and opportunities provided by the ASD Steering Committee and AOTA.
Graduate Student Council
The Graduate Student Council (GSC) is the student governing body for graduate students of both the east and west side of campus which sponsors academic and social activities for graduate students and awards GSC Travel Awrads to subsidize travel costs of graduate students presenting their work at professional meetings.
The College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) Student Council Representative
The College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) Student Council seeks to enhance the experiences of students, faculty, and staff by bringing forth issues and concerns they have about campus, transportation, safety, etc. The representative in this position will represent the OT students and relay any ideas or concerns that AHS could help with.
The Illinois Occupational Therapy Association (ILOTA) Student Liaison
Represents UIC within ILOTA to ensure that the needs and viewpoints of occupational therapy students are considered.
OT Representative for the UIC chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement
Represents the OT department to provide members with experiences with a focus on patient safety and quality improvement, encourage interprofessional collaboration, encourage membership of students from different academic disciplines to diversify dedication to healthcare improvement, and serve the UIC and Chicago communities through volunteerism.
Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity (COTAD) – UIC Chapter
The Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity (COTAD) Chapters are designed to support occupational therapy students to work together to develop and promote diversity and inclusion within occupational therapy education programs and in the profession. Representatives will work alongside leaders in COTAD and connect with other students around the country, collaborate with COTAD to create presentations, events, and share resources with other programs to communicate the desire to increase diversity within the occupational therapy workforce and prepare clinicians to serve diverse client populations.
