Norifumi Urao awarded new NIH grant as principal investigator

KN research assistant professor Norifumi Urao is the recipient of a $1.98 million, five-year National Institutes of Health R01 grant in support of his research project titled, “Impact of hematopoietic stem progenitor cell dysfunction on tissue recovery from ischemic injury in metabolic syndrome.”

Urao is the principal investigator, and will examine how obesity and pre-diabetes negatively impact tissue regeneration in cardiovascular diseases. Collaborators include KN professors Giamila Fantuzzi and Tim Koh, as well as Elizaveta Benevolenskaya of the UIC College of Medicine.
