2027-2028 CHECA Scientist Program

Funding for early career development in aging and health

UIC’s Center for Health in Cognitive Aging: Joining Population Science and Health Promotion (CHECA), one of the RCMAR centers funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) of NIH, is now accepting letters of intent (LOI) for the 2027-2028 CHECA Scientist Program. The CHECA Scientist Program provides pilot funding and tailored mentorship designed to support investigators in the development of a competitive grant proposal to be submitted to the National Institute on Aging. We invite early-career faculty from all backgrounds to submit a LOI to apply for the CHECA Scientist Program. Click here for details (e.g., eligibility, resources available).

Key Dates

  • Letter of Intent (LOI): Submit here by  Friday, September 25, 2026, 11:59 CT.
    • LOI is REQUIRED but not binding to pilot proposal submission.
    • Proposal submission due Friday, December 18, 2026, 11:59 CT.
  • Upcoming Webinars “Scientist Program/Pilot Application”: Click on a date to register
  • You will meet the CHECA leadership team and learn about (a) CHECA and its mission, (b) requirements of the CHECA Scientist Program, and (c) the application process.
  • You will have time to ask questions and discuss your ideas.
