Afolake Olakanye selected for ChicagoCHEC fellows program

HIM student Afolake Olakanye has been selected for The Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (ChicagoCHEC) Research Fellows Program. The summer intensive experience prepares individuals for careers in social, behavioral and biomedical research in healthcare. During the intensive eight-week program, fellows meet with leading scholars in basic, clinical, translational, prevention, control, behavioral and population research over a course of research rotations at Northwestern University, the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Illinois Cancer Center and Northeastern Illinois University. Typically pre-med students are selected for this program; this is the first time an HIM student has been selected.

Olakanye is also the recipient of a scholarship from the Illinois Health Information Management Association, which will be presented at the association's annual meeting at the end of April.

Olakanye is selected to participate in the New Leadership Illinois program this summer. NEW LeadershipTM Illinois is a non-partisan, week-long residential program for college women designed to increase women's representation in all elements of public life, including elected office. The program challenges our brightest students to think critically and creatively about public policy and encourages them to make a commitment to public leadership early in their careers. The program is held annually in June in Chicago.
