AHS researchers and ICIRR selected as 2018 “Acting Up” Award recipients

UIC Department of Occupational Therapy researchers, in partnership with Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), were awarded $2500 from The Chicago Community Trust to support their work on language equity for Medicaid beneficiaries.

UIC OT researchers, Mansha Mirza and Elizabeth Harrison, are pleased to announce that they and their partners at ICIRR have been selected as recipients of a $2500 award on behalf of the The Chicago Community Trust Acting Up awards.

The team plans to use this money to continue their work improving the Medicaid redetermination and renewal process for people with limited English proficiency. This project will take place in the Fall of 2018.

About the Award:
On May 8, Chicagoland residents gathered across the city and suburbs for The Chicago Community Trust’s fifth annual On the Table – coming together in small groups for mealtime conversations to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing their communities and to share ideas on what they can do to make a difference. To encourage On the Table participants to move their ideas from discussion to action and support tangible activities that benefit neighborhoods, the Trust created the Acting Up awards.

Working in partnership with Goodcity, the Trust gave away more than $150,000 to 37 projects this year – in an effort to help people to work together and take action for the public good. Over the past three years, Acting Up awards totaling more than $350,000 have been given to 167 diverse projects discussed during On the Table. View all the winning entries here.
