AHS Summer S.P.A.R.K. Scholars Reunion

Last year, the AHS Undeclared major advising team received a grant for a project to support incoming AHS undeclared major students with a transition process to UIC. Many activities organized in the summer focused on exploring campus and resources, meeting faculty and staff, and forming a community. (Previous news article: LINK).
The first reunion happened in the fall. Students joined in planting seeds at UIC. The planting of the seeds also serves as a reminder that growth is a continuous process – whether it is academic, personal, or professional. While participating in the activity, students shared their first-semester experiences. Also, AHS Summer S.P.A.R.K. Scholars shared using laptops provided for their classes and being very helpful in accessing the right software and being prepared for their classes.
The second reunion happened last week. Students were invited to reunite and connect to reflect on their semester and friends. The reunion was organized at UIC Bowling Alley, and students who participated enjoyed the game. Unfortunately, not all the students could join the reunion due to time conflicts and other commitments. Students who participated expressed that finding tools and resources provided in the programming was very helpful.
This event would not have happened without the grant opportunity, dedicated advisors, and staff working together to welcome students. A special THANK YOU goes to the entire AHS Community that participated in welcoming our AHS students.
