Applications for the Paul D. Doolen Graduate Scholarship for the Study of Aging are due October 5th!

Applications are being accepted for the Paul D. Doolen Graduate Scholarship for the Study of Aging.

The purpose of the award is to stimulate and support interest in the study of aging, i.e., biological aspects of the aging process; sociological concomitants of aging; the treatment of diseases of the elderly; the care of the aged; or other topics related to aging.

Two scholarships of up to $4,000 will be awarded for the 2025-26 academic year to graduate students in their second year of study, or beyond, whose principal scholarly interest is in the field of aging. One student will be chosen from the biological-biomedical sciences and the other from the behavioral-social sciences. Because the donor wishes this to be a "capstone" award, priority for awarding this scholarship will be given to candidates who already hold an assistantship or fellowship.

Applicants for the 2024-2025 awards came from diverse curricula (e.g., Kinesiology and Community Health, Biomedical Engineering, College of Medicine, School of Social Work, Rehabilitation Sciences, Biology, and Pharmacy). The 2024-25 Doolen scholars are Xia Ju Chen, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Work at U. of I., and Haley Cropper, who is pursuing a Ph.D./M.D. in the College of Medicine at UIC.
