Spring 2025 Online Courses
Courses can be taken individually or as part of the UIC Assistive Technology Certificate Program (ATCP). All of the courses are Asynchronous Online with deadlines.
DHD 494- Disability, Communication, and Social Participation (2-credit hour, Online, CRN:47622)
Focuses on communication within disability across the lifespan. Topics include the Communication Bill of Rights, varying communication disabilities, and the use of augmentative and alternative communication strategies and tools.
DHD 440 – Introduction to Assistive Technology: Principles and Practice (3-credit hour, CRN:39814)
Selected topics will introduce students to the principles and practices of assistive technology devices and services used by people with disabilities.
DHD 554 – Augmentative Communication Assessment (3-credit hour, CRN:16531)
Examines strategies for assessing augmentative communication, incorporating evaluation materials and case examples for discussion.
An introduction to the delivery of assistive technology services in the PreK-12 educational setting
DHD 556 – Seating and Positioning for Wheelchair Mobility (1-credit hour, CRN:39815)
A focus on seating and positioning assessment for functional use of a manual or powered wheelchair for individuals with physical disabilities.
DHD 557 – Manual and Powered Wheelchair Technologies (2-credit hour, CRN:39816)
Thoroughly examine manual and powered wheelchair designs and components for individuals with physical disabilities.
DHD 566 – Introduction to Microcontrollers in Assistive Technology (2-credit hour, CRN:47530)
In the spirit of DYI projects, learn to use entry-level electronics using microcontrollers. No prior experience with microcontrollers is required.
