Call for applicants: ORISE Fellow in the Active People, Healthy Nation Unit

The Physical Activity and Health Branch in the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO) has an opening available for an ORISE Fellow in the Active People, Healthy Nation Unit.

This opportunity will provide experience working on Active People, Healthy Nation, a national initiative to help 27 million Americans become more physically active by 2027. A core goal of this initiative is to build a movement across states, communities, government, and nongovernmental organizations to increase physical activity through equitable and inclusive evidence-based strategies.

DNPAO’s priority strategy is Increasing Physical Activity through Community Design, which is focused on implementing policies and activities to connect pedestrian, bicycle, or transit transportation networks (called activity-friendly routes) to everyday destinations.

Under the guidance of a mentor, the fellow may have the opportunity to be trained in the following activities:

  • Writing content for Active People, Healthy Nation monthly newsletter
  • Developing infographics, fact sheets, and other messaging materials for policymakers, professionals in various sectors, and the general public
  • Writing success stories/case studies in collaboration with Active People, Healthy Nation partners and disseminating through multiple channels, e.g. newsletters, social media, blogs
  • Sharing information with partners about previous and current funding and projects for community design for physical activity across the U.S.
  • Developing and delivering presentations to internal and external audiences
  • Co-managing interdisciplinary physical activity interest group at the agency
  • Communicating with national partners and participating on national partnership groups, e.g. Active People, Healthy Nation Roundtable
  • Collaborating with team members working on other related, ongoing projects to increase physical activity through equitable and inclusive evidence-based strategies
