Chancellor’s COVID-19 Relief Funding Support for basic and clinical junior faculty research labs
This limited funding opportunity is in response to a request from the Faculty Senate and on behalf of the Chancellor. There is recognition of a critical need for a mechanism to support tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty in basic and clinical sciences with research laboratories. Many of these faculty members spent start-up funds to support lab personnel during the shut-down, and now these funds are running low. Relief funding to maintain trained laboratory personnel, purchase supplies, and for other research costs to keep lab research projects viable is needed for those who are actively pursuing external funding. This is a one-time COVID relief effort sponsored by the Chancellor.
Amount of support: up to $50,000/award + coverage of employee benefits for salaries.

Process: Faculty will submit an application that includes the following information:
- COVID Impact Statement (how pandemic has impacted research)
- Use of funds – how funds received will be used to support lab research (personnel, supplies etc.)
- Your current remaining start-up balance or funding support
- Funding applications:
- # applications submitted
- # planned applications within the next 12 months
