Proceedings paper highlights that "through a variety of activities, patients take active roles in their health, which may directly or indirectly influence safety and quality." Paper is based on a panel discussion organized by the authors for the 2018 Human Factors and Ergonomics Society’s (HFES) International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care, entitled "The Patient in Patient Safety: Starting the Conversation."
