Graduate Assistant Opportunity (20 Hours/Week + Tuition Waiver)

Are you passionate about accessibility, assistive technology, and supporting individuals with disabilities in achieving greater independence? The UIC Assistive Technology Unit (ATU) is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support the Accessible Housing and Assistive Technology (AHAT) Program.

The ATU is a multidisciplinary team of occupational, physical, and speech therapists, rehabilitation engineers, architects, design specialists, special educators, and case managers dedicated to improving quality of life through assistive technology services across the Chicagoland area.

Role

This is an in-person Graduate Assistant (GA) position that offers hands-on experience in assistive technology. The GA will support the AHAT Program through equipment management activities at the UIC ATU and will have opportunities to accompany clinicians on client visits to support assistive technology implementation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Track equipment shipments and communicate delivery status with clinicians
  • Assist with inventory management and equipment ordering
  • Perform minor assembly of assistive technology equipment
  • Accompany ATU clinicians on community visits to support technology implementation in client homes

Note:

  • Attendance preference is 4-5 hours/day across 4-5 days/week at the ATU.
  • The ATU does not have standard operating hours, however ATU staff are typically working between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The 20 hours/week can be scheduled anytime within that timeframe.
