New policy to give students access to the EHR for educational purposes
If you are working with students on smaller projects who might need to get access to the electronic health record, the approval process has been not straight forward. The OVCHA has come up with a new process to help with the non-traditional access to the EHR. This is not to replace the current method of on-boarding students for clinical practicum experience, but if you are doing a quality improvement project with students, the link below explains the new policy. The new policy 101 is described below and the link to fill out the forms:
Students receive access to UI Health clinical facility premises, access to patients, access to the electronic health record and/or access to protected health information through their colleges or units for educational purposes.
This policy provides a procedure whereby UIC students who have not already obtained approval and access to clinical facility premises, patients, electronic health record,and/or access to protected health information at the UI Health hospital and clinics, Mile Square Health Center and affiliated clinics may do so for scholarly and clinical projects sponsored by faculty and staff. Please note that this policy does not apply to students with a paid research position.
