Plain Language for Accessible Communication

Weekly Accessibility Tips

Dear Colleagues,

Learn how to write and speak clearly with the Plain Language Tip Sheet. Plain language is an act of inclusion through writing, formatting, and speaking. Clear communication is essential, even in higher education.

This tip sheet includes:

  • What is plain language?
  • Writing and formatting techniques for plain language
  • Tools to help improve your writing (checking for reading level, hard sentences, passive sentences, etc.)
  • Resources for more information and examples of plain language (including for more technical subjects)

To access previous tip sheets, open the AHS Accessibility Tip Sheets folder. If you have any questions or need more support, you can visit AHS Accessibility Specialist office hours or submit a support ticket.
