Protective canopy to be installed over AHSB walkways

The Applied Health Sciences Building (1919 W. Taylor St.) façade has been subject to numerous repairs over the years to stabilize the exterior walls.  For those repairs, architects and engineers were hired to inspect the façade and identify areas where loose bricks needed to be secured to the building’s main structure.  Contractors were then hired to install the metal strapping visible today.  In recent years, the frequency of façade inspections and repairs has increased.  Engineers evaluated the building façade last year and will evaluate the façade again this spring to determine if any additional stabilization is needed.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are making plans to install a protective canopy over the walkways adjacent to the building.  The canopy will be similar to that which was present at the base of University Hall for many years or the canopy currently in place at the College of Medicine East Tower.  The canopy is expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future.
