Publication accepted: Article by UIC researchers including Andrew Boyd breaks communication barriers
A collaboration between BHIS assistant professor Andrew Boyd and researchers from UIC Nursing, UIC Engineering, University of Florida and University of Arizona has resulted in a new article accepted for publication that could have widespread implications. This is the first time, using preexisting knowledge, anyone has developed an algorithm that compared the vocabulary between nurses and physicians in their documentation. Researchers can now measure the collaboration and overlap between the professions allowing future researchers to examine the impact of process and individuals impacting patient care. Barbara Di Eugenio is the lead faculty from COE and Karen Dunn Lopez is the lead from NUR.
