Seeking dedicated graduate students to serve as outbreak responders

Seeking people interested in pandemic preparedness and outbreak response!

UIC’s Outbreak Response Team in partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health tests, vaccinates and offers infection control advice, if needed, several days per week.

We go to congregate living and work sites all over the City of Chicago where there are suspected outbreaks or where people vulnerable to poor outcomes from outbreaks live, work and play. It might be COVID-19. It might be Group A Strep or Legionnaires' Disease. It might be something completely new and different!

We are looking for graduate students in the health sciences who are:

  • Interested in being part of an inter-disciplinary team that keeps our city safe and healthy;
  • Eager to do health promotion activities;
  • Willing to learn how to test or vaccinate for various diseases;
  • Willing to do data entry;
  • Capable of committing to at least one day or evening per week; and
  • Vaccinated against COVID 19 (a requirement of many sites we enter!)

Our contract will ensure that we are sent out at least one day per week but it could be up to five days per week—including weekends--depending on the needs.

If you are interested and will graduate AFTER May 2023, please fill out this Qualtrics survey by Sunday November 13. Please make sure to upload your resume. We will only consider complete applications.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Rebecca Singer, College of Nursing, at rmsinger@uic.edu

We look forward to working with you!
