Susan Magasi is the lead author of a qualitative study published in the January issue of Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes

OT and DHD associate professor Susan Magasi, along with inter-disciplinary colleagues at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, published an article titled, "Preparedness and Mutuality Affect Quality of Life for Patients With Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) and Their Caregivers."

This qualitative research study situates MCS caregiving within the context of the broader literature on caregiving and highlights the dynamic, collaborative and inter-personal nature care.

A companion editorial by McIlvennan and Matlock titled, "'Have you ever seen that movie Misery...' time to think outside the box to help caregivers of patients with left ventricular assist devices," uses a powerful participant quotation from the article to further underscore the need for better supports for caregivers (and Magasi et al would argue the people they support).  OT student, Ricardo Ramirez, is a co-author on the paper.
