Theresa Carroll to receive an Emerging Leader Alumni Award from Washington University in St. Louis

OT clinical assistant professor Theresa Carroll is the recipient of a 2019 Emerging Leader Alumni Award from the the Program in Occupational Therapy at Washington University in St. Louis.

As a leader in OT, Theresa has been promoting the occupational performance and meaningful participation in life of adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism. She has advocated for integrating evidence-based collaborative OT services for students with autism and other development disabilities as they transition from high school to adulthood.

At the national level, Theresa has become an instrumental member of the AOTA Transition Community of Practice (CoP) and in 2015, she co-founded the Illinois Early Intervention and Schools Community of Practice and continue to co-facilitate this group to this day. Thanks to Theresa’s leadership, the Illinois CoP is expanding and impacting transition services provided to youth with disabilities in the State.

At the departmental level, we are all familiar with Theresa’s leadership developing a collaboration with Urban Autism Solutions and introducing technology in the classroom, among other significant contributions.
