March 16, 2026 — The second phase of UIC’s traffic‑calming project near the hospital will begin Monday, March 16. This phase includes installation of curb extensions and a raised crosswalk across Taylor Street at Hermitage Avenue.
Key impacts
Taylor Street will be closed from Paulina Street to Wood Street during construction.
Detour signage will be posted throughout the area.
A temporary patient drop‑off zone will be available on the east side of the hospital.
UIC shuttle buses will be rerouted, with updates reflected in the UIC Ride app.
Work is expected to take approximately eight weeks.
