UIC Rise: Student Career Conference

Encourage students to attend parts of this full-day career readiness event that focuses on helping students connect their experiences to the next steps of their career journeys.

Dear Faculty

I would like to share an amazing opportunity offered by the Office of Career Services for our students on Friday, January 23, 2026.

Please encourage students to attend the UIC Rise: Student Career Conference (UIC Rise), a full-day career readiness event that focuses on helping students connect their experiences to the next steps of their career journeys. UIC Rise is designed to complement academic learning by helping students reflect on their coursework, co-curricular experiences, and goals in a practical and applied manner.

The conference is free and open to all students, but is especially valuable for those who are still clarifying their goals and/or preparing to transition into internships, employment, or graduate studies.

Conference highlights include:

  • Professional Hot Seat: Employers and alumni share candid insights and lessons learned from their career experiences.
  • Breakout sessions focused on:
    • Deciding whether graduate school is the right next step
    • Managing the job search and reducing stress
    • Communicating skills and experiences effectively to employers
    • Building meaningful experience beyond the classroom
  • Next Steps Mixer: Lunch & Learn with Professionals, giving students low-pressure networking practice
  • Resource Fair featuring campus departments and student support services

Student tailored information can be found in the Inside-AHS CalendarYour support plays a key role in student participation. If you are teaching next semester, you can help by announcing the conference in class or on your course site, encouraging attendance as a professional development opportunity, and/or considering excused absences or extra credit, where appropriate, to support student career development.  If you work directly with students, please share this email with them and encourage them to consider participating.

Thank you for your time. For more details about UIC Rise, click here. Please feel free to contact Career Services (careerservices@uic.edu) if you have any questions and/or know of any employers/alumni who might be interested in participating in the conference and/or our upcoming Industry Connect events.

Take care and Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

Viviana Kabbabe-Thompson
