Andrew Boyd is a co-author of the article “Relations of Current and Past Cancer with Severe Outcomes among 104,590 Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients: The COVID EHR Cohort at the University of Wisconsin” published in Cancer, Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.  The study found that a cancer diagnosis posed a significant risk for severe outcomes (ICU admission and death) over the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior COVID-19 vaccination significantly reduced the risk of death amongst cancer patients who develop COVID-19. It is the second-largest study of COVID-19 patients in the United States, funded by the National Cancer Institute, and the first paper published by a journal that uses data from the COVID EHR Cohort at the University of Wisconsin.
