Disability and Human Development Art Contest

The Department of Disability and Human Development is holding an art contest! The theme is ‘Creating Disability Culture’. Artistic abilities not required! Art of all mediums will be accepted. Select submissions will be displayed at an Art Show and end-of-the-semester get together on May 1st, 2019 (more details to come, but be sure to save the date). We are also accepting submissions for an image that represents the Department of Disability and Human Development. The image will be displayed on future DHD ‘swag’ items like canvas totes, water bottles and more!
Submissions due April 24th, 2019. Cash prizes will be awarded!
What can I submit?
Art of all different mediums will be accepted! Examples include: painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, photography, collage, digital art, video art, performance art, and more.
Who can participate?
The contest is open to DHD Major and Minor students as well as any undergraduate student enrolled in a DHD course this semester.
How do I submit my piece?
Use the online submission form to enter your piece in the contest: https://forms.uofi.uic.edu/sec/391549
- For images that represent DHD, take a picture of your submission or upload the digital file in the submission form.
- For painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, photography, collage, or other similar formats, take a picture of your piece and upload in the submission form.
- For video and performance art submissions (3 minutes maximum), upload to a streaming service and provide the URL in the submission form.
When are submissions due?

What are the guidelines?
Video or performance pieces should be no longer than 3 minutes.
Image submissions that represent DHD should be a sketch, drawing, painting, or computer program designed image that can be converted to a simple vector shape. The image cannot contain “UIC”, “University of Illinois at Chicago”, “DHD”, “Disability and Human Development”, other text, or other existing UIC or departmental logo imagery.
When is the art show?
May 1st, 2019 from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm. More details about the location of the show to come.
Who can attend the art show?
All DHD Majors, Minors and any students interested in learning about our program are welcome! You do not have to submit a piece to attend the show. Winners will be announced and cash prizes will be awarded at the show!
Why should I participate?
It’s a great excuse to put your creative talents to use. Winners will receive cash prizes! Come hangout with fellow DHD students, staff and faculty, eat some free food, and take a much needed break from studying!
