Joy Hammel PI of new $2.5 million NIDILRR research grant

A $2.5 million, five-year grant from The National Institute for Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research has been awarded to fund a project titled, “The Americans with Disabilities Act Participation Action Research Consortium (ADA PARC): Advancing Participation Equity for People with Disabilities.”

DHD and OT professor Joy Hammel and Lex Frieden at the University of Texas are principal investigators of the project. Janet Smith from UIC CUPPA is a key collaborator, co-principal investigator and action research partner. DHD instructor Robin Jones is a key co-investigator and collaborator.

The team will design, implement and evaluate a web-based platform that will allow its users to immediately query level of disparities in access to community living, levels of community participation and civic engagement, and economic, work and financial equity and resource access.
