Ron Schon dies

Architect Ron Schon passed away on October 27, 2018. Most of Ron’s 30-year career was spent at the Office of Capital Planning and Project Management, where he was involved in several key projects, including the UIC Forum, Stukel Tower, and the South Campus. Ron was especially focused on ADA compliance of UIC projects, helping to ensure access for all UIC students, staff and faculty.
During the past 5 years, Ron worked at the UIC Assistive Technology Unit. The ATU serves individuals with disabilities in the community, and Ron’s work in providing specifications for home accessibility enabled approximately 250 individuals to remain in their homes, and avoid moving to nursing homes.
Ron was a consummate professional, valued co-worker, cherished mentor to ATU graduate students. He was an excellent representative of UIC in the community.
