Mapping Disability Experiences

A hand drawn map of Cozell Gibson’s neighborhood.

We are excited to share with you a virtual gallery of maps submitted as part of a community-based project collecting experiences of people with disabilities living during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mapping Disability Experiences explored how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted (or not) disabled people’s use and understanding of space. The project invited maps, envisioned in the broadest possible sense, including hand-drawn maps, poems, pictures, and digital renderings.  The Mapping Disability Experiences virtual gallery shares maps submitted between the Spring and Fall of 2020. These maps capture the many ways that the interactions with our environments tell the story of COVID-19 and its unfolding impact on disabled people’s lives.
