Tanvi Bhatt is awarded a five-year $2.95 million R01 grant from the National Institute of Aging

Tanvi Bhatt (PI) and her research team have been awarded $2.95 million (DC $1.9 million) five-year R01 by the National Institute of Aging (NIA).  The grant was submitted in response to a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) by NIA that invited proposals that intended to investigate central and peripheral control of balance in older adults and was be reviewed by a special emphasis panel.  Dr. Bhatt’s grant titled “Neuromechanisms of falls in older adults with MCI: Targeting assessment and training of reactive balance control” aims to examine how pathology related to cognitive impairment might contribute to balance problems and increase risk of environmental falls in older adults.  The project examines mechanisms and neural correlates of reactive balance and proposes a cost-effective intervention integrating sensory, motor, cognitive and psychological factors for improving balance recovery in these older adults.
