Announcement: John Daugherty to retire December 31
Dear AHS students, faculty and staff,
It is with mixed feelings that I write this retirement announcement of John Daugherty. During my brief tenure with BHIS, I have come to know John as a foundation and pillar for the Program in Biomedical Visualization. John’s last date will be December 31, 2021.
John is the BVIS program director and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards for his illustration work in medical education and healthcare marketing, including over twenty AMI Salon Awards. His illustrations have been included in exhibitions held by the New York Society of Illustrators, National Library of Medicine, Rx Club, John Muir Medical Film Festival, Oakland Museum of Art, William Benton Museum of Art, International Museum of Surgical Science, and Lisboa-Terreiro do Paço in Portugal. He is a five-time recipient of the Excalibur Award for Teaching Excellence from the AHS Sciences Student Council and a recipient of the 2017 AHS Outstanding Academic Leadership Award. He received the Brödel Award of Excellence in Education from the AMI in 2013.
It is my pleasure to announce Leah Lebowicz as the incoming BVIS program director.
Coming out of the recent BVIS centennial celebration, it is astounding to note that John has been with the program for roughly four decades. While we will miss his wisdom and leadership, please join me in thanking him for his several decades-worth of contribution to the program and wish him the best for the upcoming retired life!
