About
Dr. Akinola’s research focuses broadly on youth mental health, psychosocial and vocational rehabilitation for youth living with disabilities. Her current research explores the conditions that promote or impede recovery and better life outcomes (i.e., education, work, community integration) among transition-aged youth with serious mental health conditions. Dr. Akinola is also invested in understanding how individual characteristics and contextual and sociocultural factors impact and shape clients’ experiences and outcomes from rehabilitation programs. The overarching aim of her research is to render more accessible the most effective strategies and interventions for improving psychological and vocational-related outcomes of youth with disabilities, especially among those from underrepresented and underserved communities.
