About

Amami Antia-Obong, MS is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Biomedical Visualization (BVIS) graduate program. Within the BVIS program, Amami teaches the Animation I-IV classes. Within these classes students gain knowledge of the design and production process behind creating animations within the medical field and create their own.

Amami originally hails from South Carolina. She grew up around the medical field. Her mother was a doctor and originally Amami wanted to become a doctor before truly realizing her love of creating art. Thanks to a passing comment by her mother and the presentation by medical illustrator, G. David Brown, at Winthrop University she found a way to mix her love of the medical field and art. Thanks to the guidance of G. David Brown, Amami received her BFA in Illustration from Winthrop University in 2010, and then received her MS in Biomedical Visualization in 2013. Amami worked at Trial Exhibits, Inc as a medical legal illustrator and animator from 2014-2022 were she created 2D and 3D illustrations and animations for court cases to educate the jury on the procedures performed on patients.
