About

Drew Browning is an Emeritus Professor in the UIC College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts. He has taught electronic/digital art and design courses in the Electronic Visualization and Industrial Design programs. Professor Browning founded the Design Visualization Laboratory in 1984 as a joint teaching/research lab for both programs, conducting sponsored research in the areas of design visualization and design for persons with disability. He has authored papers and given lectures on these subjects at various conferences and meetings. After retiring in 2010, Browning served as Research Faculty at the UIC Innovation Center, an interdisciplinary incubator facility where research and education connect with industry. Since 2016, he has taught part-time in the UIC Assistive Technology Unit. His current research involves the design and distribution of assistive technology through open source networks. This research focuses on how the Open Design and Maker movements can benefit People with Disabilities through distributed manufacturing using mass customization.
