About
As Associate Dean for Research, Kharma Foucher, MD, PhD works to foster a culture of collaboration, support, and community for AHS scholars. She leads the Office of Research, overseeing sponsored projects administration, providing and supervising research-related services, and promoting research accomplishments to internal and external stakeholders.
Dr. Foucher is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition, with appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Physical Therapy. Her research group, the Biomechanics and Clinical Outcomes Lab, uses an approach that she refers to as Person-Centered Biomechanics Research to reduce the burden of osteoarthritis-related disability and improve musculoskeletal health care for all. Their current projects seek to identify and address disease-specific biomechanical factors associated with reduced physical activity and falls in people with osteoarthritis and joint replacements.
Outside of AHS, Dr. Foucher is the Director of Education and Professional Development for the Center for Clinical and Translational Science where she oversees workforce development strategies and programming for PIs, trainees, and all members of the research team.
Beyond UIC, she serves as a faculty member of the Young Investigator Initiative Grant Mentoring Program of the Orthopaedic Research Society, where she recently completed a term on the Board of Directors.
