About
Eric Swirsky serves as faculty, director of graduate studies, and PhD program director in the Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences. He also holds an appointment in the College of Medicine Department of Medical Education collaborating in the development of curricula related to clinical medical ethics, professionalism, and responsible use of medical technologies. Eric holds a BA in religious studies, an MA in South Asian studies, a juris doctor degree, and a master’s in health professions education. Eric serves numerous health and education-related boards, including contributions to the Illinois Health Information Exchange (ILHIE) Advisory Committee, the Chicagoland COVID-19 Pandemic Response Commons, and the Board of Directors of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. His current research involves testing of an instrument measuring variables related to moral distress resulting from the hidden curricula of health professions education.

As an ethicist-attorney, Swirsky serves on UI Health’s Ethics Committee, the Research Ethics Consultation Service, the editorial board of The American Journal of Bioethics, and his recent appointment to the Board of Directors for the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.
