Abstract

METS for MS- A study of 2 non-medicinal treatments for depression and MS

The Mood and Exercise Training Study for Multiple Sclerosis or METS for MS is currently enrolling participants. METS for MS involves the remote delivery of a 4-month exercise training program with a 4-month follow-up period for persons with Multiple Sclerosis who have depression. As a part of the study, you would be asked to visit the UIC campus for in person testing 3 times over the course of the 8 months. After you complete initial in-person testing you will be provided with a manual, a logbook for self-monitoring, newsletters, a calendar, and any appropriate materials needed for the exercises. You would also be assigned a coach who would meet with you via Zoom 8 times over the initial 4 months of the study.

To qualify for the study you must:

- Have a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis

- Have signs of or a diagnosis of depression

- Have internet and email access

- Have a willingness to complete training

- Be physically inactive

- Be able to walk without assistance

- Be between the ages of 18 and 64

- Speak English as a primary language

- Live within 200 miles of Chicago

Compensation for this study is $300 if all study visits are completed.
