KN doctoral program ranked seventh in the nation

A newly released assessment of U.S. kinesiology doctoral programs has ranked UIC’s PhD in Kinesiology and Nutrition seventh overall.

The three-year evaluation, conducted by the National Academy of Kinesiology, is based on data reported by 39 American universities from 2023, 2024 and 2025. The findings assess faculty productivity, research funding, professional visibility, doctoral student scholarship and graduates' employment outcomes.

The KN PhD program ranked 21st in 2020 and 13th in 2023.

“Our rise in the NAK rankings reflects the strength of our academic programs and the continued excellence and achievements of our students and faculty,” said KN professor and KN PhD program director Lisa Tussing-Humphreys.

In addition to recognizing the members of UIC community that make the KN PhD successful, the new rankings make the program an attractive choice for prospective students nationwide.

“A high ranking shows those outside our department what we have believed internally: that we have phenomenal professors, students and an overall top program that we hope others want to join,” said KN department head David Marquez.
