About
Laura Mills joined the BHIS faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor in January 2018, prior to which she was an adjunct instructor in the department. She has been an educator much of her professional life, beginning with her first position as a high school teacher of Biology and Chemistry; prior to her work at UIC, she was also a writer of articles, essays, and blogs on a variety of topics including education, adoption and families, and yoga. At the same time, Laura was an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance and taught yoga classes in her community for eleven years.
Today at UIC Laura teaches BHIS 405 (Pathophysiology), 406 (Medical Terminology), 499 (Information Sources in BHIS), and assists with 503 (Communication Skills in HI). She is also the Associate Director of Health Informatics Programs. Having earned her Professional Certificate in Online Education in 2020, Laura is dedicated to and specializes in quality online learning in higher education. She is currently pursuing her EdD in Adult Education at Capella University.
